History of Tampico
The word Tampico becomes from two huastec terms “Tam” meaning “Place of” and “Piko” meaning “water dogs”, because of the vast presence of otters that used to inhabit the region in the Pre-Hispanic period. Tampico, a city almost totally surrounded by water, because it is located between the parallel 22 and the Cancer Tropic in the Gulf of Mexico. It is surrounded by the rivers Panuco and Tamesi and the famous Lagoon of Chairel.
Tampico, young city, peaceful, gorgeous, worker and of great beauty, actually experiments an accelerated growth in the industry and commerce. Tampico has a tropical weather by excellence.
Tourism in Tampico
In Tampico, there are very important places in behalf of its architecture from the times of Porfirio Diaz in the historical Center Downtown. There are archeological places such as the Flowers Pyramid and recreation places such as the Miramar Beach, where you can practice some aquatic sports such as ski, surf and fishing.
Sport Fishing is a great choice for fun Tampico, in the area you’ll find a great infrastructure and sport clubs for fishing, in the Champayan Lagoon you will be able to fish bass, in the beach you can capture catfish and other species. In the sea there is a lot of snook, shad, guachinango, etc. Every year in Tampico there is the Shad Contest and in the beach there are other fishing contests during the year with great awards. Tampico is full of fun and entertainment for the entire family; you will find night bars, bowling, fairs, restaurants, movie theaters, malls and recreational parks.
Miramar Beach
This is one of the most attractive spots that you can visit during your stay in Tampico, located at the northeast of the city, in Madero City, It is a 10 kilometer white sand, beautiful water and quite waves.
The Historical Center
It has many antique buildings of great beauty, in addition to the squares and public parks as the Plaza de Armas.
Freedom Square
Families and friends get together in it to be able to enjoy the cultural events that are hold in it such as musical concerts and artistic expositions.
Carpintero Lagoon
Downtown of Tampico there is the Carpintero Lagoon, a recreation place where you can have a boat drive to enjoy the view, or take your kids to the play rooms.
At the margin of the Lagoon you can also admire the alligators and the fauna that inhabits there such as birds and turtles.
Meet the roots of our area, visit the museum of the Huastec Culture, located in the Tecnological Institute of Madero City and admire ceramic and figures of this fascinating and splendorous culture that inhabited this coast of the Gulf of Mexico in Tamaulipas and Veracruz.
